Insurance for fine art transport

Before any shipment, you should carry out a rigorous condition report by taking high-definition photos of the artwork from every angle, which will constitute your sole proof in the event of a dispute. Also take the time to measure the object precisely, frame or base included, as the slightest error can disrupt the manufacture of your bespoke packaging or hold up the carrier. Finally, make sure that the collection and delivery locations are easily accessible for the carrier if you have not selected a specific handling option.

How do I correctly declare the value of my artwork on the platform?

The value declared when requesting your quote must correspond to the real and justifiable financial value of the object. For a recently acquired artwork, you should base it on the exact purchase price shown on the invoice or the auction sale note. If it is an older work or part of a personal collection, you should enter the value set by a certified appraisal or a value certificate from an auctioneer dating from less than three years ago.

What documents are mandatory and must be attached to my transport?

For national transport or within the European Union, you simply need to attach the sales invoice (or a proforma invoice if the object is not the subject of a transaction), together with the shipping note provided by Moviiu. For an international shipment, customs regulations require you to attach a very detailed proforma invoice specifying the nature of the artwork, the artist, the materials and the weight. These documentary and tax obligations vary considerably from one country to another depending on local legislation, but our team and our platform are there precisely to guide you step by step and tell you exactly which documents to provide to secure clearance through customs.

What happens in the event of a customs hold-up during an international transport?

If a shipment is held at customs, Moviiu’s teams support you in quickly identifying the missing supporting document or information. Hold-ups are almost always linked to an imprecise description of the artwork or to the absence of a regulatory document required by the destination country. Our platform is designed to anticipate these procedures, but it is the sender’s responsibility to provide rigorously accurate information when ordering in order to avoid these setbacks.

Are the delivery times shown during the online quote guaranteed?

The times shown on our platform are reliable estimates calculated in business days, based on the transport flows of our global logistics partners such as DHL, FedEx or UPS. However, these times run from the moment the parcel is actually collected by the carrier. They remain indicative as they depend on overall traffic conditions and do not take into account any customs inspection delays in countries outside the European Union, which fall exclusively under the control of the local authorities.
