How an international shipment with Moviiu works
> The quote, online and with no account required
Enter the pick-up address, the destination, the type of object, its dimensions, its weight and its value. The price is displayed instantly. Our system compares the rates of our three partner carriers, DHL Express, FedEx and UPS, and selects the best one.
The online quote covers items worth up to €100,000, within a limit of 180 × 147 × 25 cm for paintings and prints, and 104 × 60 × 57 cm for sculptures and objects.
> The packaging, prepared and sent to you
We make your custom box in triple-wall cardboard lined with foam on all sides, and include the necessary documents. Allow up to two days. You then place the work inside, seal the box and schedule the pick-up. This collaborative approach is what keeps the cost of transport down.
> Pick-up and tracking
Depending on the time of your booking, the work is collected the same day or the next day by DHL Express, FedEx or UPS. You and the recipient receive a notification with the shipment number, and the shipment can also be tracked from the “My shipments” section of your account.
> Delivery
The recipient receives a notification with the expected delivery date and a time slot. Delivery is made against signature. If the recipient is absent, a new date can be arranged directly with the carrier.
Customs, taxes and documents
As soon as a shipment crosses a customs border, it must be cleared through customs. This is particularly the case for shipments from Switzerland or the European Union to a non-EU country. For this, we draw up a pro forma invoice containing the HS codes and the value of the goods, and customs clearance is carried out directly by DHL Express, FedEx or UPS.
Customs duties and import taxes are not included in the transport price. On arrival in the destination country, the carrier informs the recipient of any duties and taxes due. They are paid via a payment link, and the shipment is only delivered once these charges have been paid.
Finally, in some countries local legislation requires DAT delivery: the shipment stops at the destination terminal, and customs clearance and final delivery must be arranged by a local agent or by the recipient. The price shown is then adjusted and clearly states these conditions.
Shipments that require a custom quote
Some shipments fall outside the scope of the instant quote:
- pieces that exceed the dimensions given above,
- items worth more than €100,000,
- very fragile items such as porcelain, glassware, terracotta, fine wines, marble, jade or ivory.
We transport these too, but after review. The same applies to regular shipments, which qualify for negotiated rates above a certain volume.
